Amazon Item Highlights

Quick Answer

Amazon Item Highlights is a separate 125-character field introduced with Amazon's July 27, 2026 title update. Amazon says the field is for details such as materials or recommended use cases that help customers compare options. Its content is searchable and appears with the Item name in search results and on product detail pages.

Amazon's later FAQ adds three important clarifications:

  • Item name and Item Highlights are both search inputs; one is not prioritized over the other.
  • Amazon treats the current model as 200 characters of important product information split across two fields: 75 + 125.
  • From August 10, 2026, Item Highlights displays beneath Item name on desktop and mobile, although the number of visible characters can vary by screen and display settings.

For non-media categories, the related Item name limit is 75 characters including spaces. Item Highlights does not make the title 200 characters again; it is a separate field with a different job.

Next, check the complete listing with Listing Readiness Checker, then review the 75-character Amazon title rule.

Prepare in one place

Publish Action

Review the title, Item Highlights, product data, images, and final listing readiness before publishing.

Use one preparation flow for sizes, titles, descriptions, keywords, and checklists instead of switching between separate tools.

What Should Go in Item Highlights?

Amazon's announcement specifically gives materials and recommended use cases as examples. Its later FAQ recommends keeping the brand name and the most important varying attributes in Item name, then moving secondary details to Item Highlights if the 75-character title cannot hold everything important.

Good candidates can include:

  • material or construction facts,
  • a supported use case,
  • a meaningful compatibility detail,
  • secondary size, pack, or configuration details,
  • less-important variation attributes that do not fit cleanly in Item name,
  • another factual differentiator that helps comparison.

Do not treat the field as a place for unsupported claims, promotional language, or repeated title wording.

Title vs Item Highlights

Use Item name for the product's core identity. Use Item Highlights for secondary facts that help comparison.

A simple working model:

  • Item name: brand + product type + the most important identifying / varying detail.
  • Item Highlights: useful supporting detail such as material, use case, compatibility, or secondary configuration.

The two fields should complement each other rather than repeat the same phrase. Amazon's current FAQ explicitly says both are search inputs, so there is no need to treat Item Highlights as a lower-priority search field.

Bulk Update Workflow

Amazon says sellers can update both fields in bulk through the Category Listings report:

1. Download the report with current product information pre-populated.

2. Edit Item name and Item Highlights in the spreadsheet.

3. Upload it through List Your Products.

Amazon says these listing updates are typically processed within eight hours. Always verify the final listing after processing.

Where Amazon Says to Review It

Amazon's original announcement points sellers to Manage All Inventory and the View enhancements workflow for AI-recommended Item names and Item Highlights. Amazon also says sellers can make edits at any time and that brand owners receive a 14-day review window before certain AI-generated recommendations are implemented.

Common Mistakes
  • Treating Item Highlights as an extension of the title and repeating the same wording.
  • Assuming Item Highlights is less relevant to search; Amazon says both fields are search inputs and neither is prioritized over the other.
  • Moving an essential product-identity fact out of Item name just to save space.
  • Filling the 125 characters with broad keywords instead of useful product facts.
  • Adding promotions, seller information, shipping promises, or unverifiable claims.
  • Assuming every screen will display all 125 characters; Amazon says visible length can vary by screen and display settings.
Important Limitations
  • Amazon's 75-character Item name announcement explicitly excludes media categories; verify the active rule for your product type.
  • The availability, validation, and exact rendering of Item Highlights can depend on the active listing experience and later Amazon changes.
  • “Search input” does not mean Amazon promises a ranking improvement from filling the field.
  • Processing time for bulk updates is an Amazon-stated typical value, not a guaranteed SLA.
  • Seller Central remains the final operational check before publishing.
